Collections

Sorry my posts have been few and far between lately. My very wise ex-worker said that if you are going to do a blog, you should be ready to post all the time. Days go by and then your followers will start to forget about you. So I hope no one out there has forgotten. I recently started a new job and no longer have a laptop so my posts have been fewer than normal. I'll try to get back on track.

Today I came across Robert Patrick's post (an art buyer in California found via Imprint) about his collection of vintage paper placemats. It got me thinking about collecting and the interesting things people like to gather. I used to collect Archie Comics. I thought about starting to collect PEZ dispensers but started seeing the sames ones all over the place and didn't think it was very unique. I wonder what the draw is to start collecting something in the first place. I love turtles and usually buy anything turtle I see, so I guess that counts. I was also starting to collect vintage advertisements but realized I could just look at them online. I guess there's a fine line between hoarding and collecting. I did read in a design book along the way that good art directors are collectors. My husband's ex-boss has a fabulous collection of foreign currency. It's fun to see all the different designs. Here are a few of Robert Patrick's vintage placemats.
