Wow.

I wonder what Monet would have thought of this interactive experience...http://www.monet2010.com/

Info-graphics

Along with collage and letterpress I have a major thing for info-graphics. One of my favorites is the work done by Feltron.

Monocle

Just purchased the Mediterraneo issue of Monocle. Mainly because I like the design but also hoping it has some interesting tips for places to see. Can't wait for it to arrive! Check it out here.

Ben Jennings

Love the work of Ben Jennings. Learn more about this piece and see more of his work here.

Rainy Days

Personally, I think this is genius. Not that people in Seattle actually use umbrellas, but when we get that sideways wind and rain this would come in handy. Purchase at designboom.

The Other Guys Motion Graphics

While waiting for the ferry we watched The Other Guys and it reminded me of the great motion graphics a co-worker sent a little while back. LA based Picture Mill was behind this great minimalistic design. Check it out here.

Sunday (supposed to be Sat) Book Review: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

I was on Orcas this weekend so didn't get a chance to do Saturday Book Review. This week it's The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I read this trilogy in the matter of weeks. Originally written for young adults, these books have become very popular with adults. Reading the description of these books, I didn't think I'd like them, but they are real page turners no matter what your age. Enjoy!

Twenty-four are forced to enter. Only the winner survives.

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Each year, the districts are forced by the Capitol to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the Hunger Games, a brutal and terrifying fight to the death – televised for all of Panem to see.

Survival is second nature for sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who struggles to feed her mother and younger sister by secretly hunting and gathering beyond the fences of District 12. When Katniss steps in to take the place of her sister in the Hunger Games, she knows it may be her death sentence. If she is to survive, she must weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

I like to do drawrings

This is a sketch I did for a comp for Concur Breeze. The drawing represents all the things that go through a small business owner's head. It was fun to do something hands on vs. the computer.

What do you live for?

Amazing spot done by Ogilvy Taiwan. Watch it here.

Back to the future

Great idea by photographer Irina Werning. Taking old photos and finding the people in them to reenact the same set-ups today. Here are some samples but check them all out here: http://irinawerning.com/back-to-the-fut/back-to-the-future/

Santorini

Wish we were there now...but we will be in Sept! More beautiful photography (of Oia on Santorini), this time by Marcel Germain.

Scout Books

I love these journals. They are simple but what's fun is you can design your own. Here are some samples by some illustrators in Portland. http://www.scoutbooks.com/

The beautiful work of Rhett Dashwood

There is something to be said for handcrafted work-which we don't see often these days. Check out this clever promotional piece. See more of Rhett's work here: http://rhettdashwood.com.au/

How Netflix beat Blockbuster

Today it was announced that a group of investors bid $290 million to buy Blockbuster out of bankruptcy. Here is a nice infographic on how Netflix dominated.

Street art from around the world

Red Bull and Google teamed up to create a site that allows you to view street art from around the world. Search by artist or place. Pretty cool. Start searching the globe here: http://www.streetartview.com/

Alice in Wonderland

I know this is seriously out of date, but we just watched Alice in Wonderland last night and it reminded me of these wonderful photographs by Annie Leibovitz. I loved seeing the great costumes, makeup, set design and art direction-even if it wasn't in 3-D.

Was at Whole Foods today and met the owner of Four Seasons Gourmet Foods. I bought the blueberry extract-delicious! Neat packaging too.

Saturday Book Review: ROOM by Emma Donoghue

http://www.roomthebook.com/

Thought I'd make Saturday Book Review Day. I recently read ROOM by Emma Donoghue. ROOM is told from the perspective of Jack, a 5-year old boy who was born and has grown up in the world of one room. The book is very imaginative and kept my attention the entire way through. It's a little tough in the beginning getting used to the voice, but well worth the read!

Currently I'm reading the 3rd book in the Girl with a Dragon Tattoo series. My next book post will be about the trilogy.
