Comics!

Steven Heller's post today on Imprint talks about comics used in Advertising. I didn't realize they ever carried that purpose. One of my favorite memories is my mom taking me to the comic book store in California and then going for hot dogs afterward. I read and collected Archie comics. 22 years later I still have my collection and wonder if I should get back into it. A comment on Heller's post mentions the first woman to create comics, Rose O'Neill. Her first comic was in 1896 that published in True Magazine. I did a quick search but can't find the illustration. She was also the inventor of the Kewpie doll in 1912 (which was popular for the next 30 years) that was based off of a character in her illustrations. An amazing story to hear of everything she accomplished as a woman in those days. Sounded like her father was a huge advocate and support. It does help when someone believes in you.
